Mercelina named Formateur for next government…
His Excellency Governor Baly has appointed Dr. Luc Mercelina Formateur, responsible for the formation of the next government for St. Maarten. In a Press statement issued on Friday September 6th, it states that “Considering the results of the August 19 elections, consultations were held with all 7 political leaders from the seven political parties that have gained at least one seat in the recently held snap elections; and given consideration to the declaration letter of intent signed by the four Political parties URSM, SAM, PFP and the DP, it formed the basis for the Governor to request Dr. Luc Mercelina to consider the assignment as Formateur.”
The governor presented a ten point agenda which should be included in the governing program based on the manifesto of the political parties involved in the formation and that it should be enforced. GEBE, The annual BUDGET, Education, combatting Poverty, Health Care and Political Reforms are among the list of priorities for the incoming Government.
The Governor further emphasized the importance of the strict observance of the regulatory requirements, including the screening criteria applicable to the appointment for candidate ministers. Dr, Luc Mercelina took the commission into consideration and is expected to submit his report on the formation by November 15th 2024.
