Lyndon Lewis, Justice Minister gets it wrong…
The complaint voiced by the outgoing Minister of Justice Lyndon Lewis, which is leveled against the sitting coalition is misdirected. The Minister is charging that he was left out of the talks to form the next government. He called it disrespectful and according to him, dirty politics played, when he was not involved in the talks.
The Minister also said on Wednesday that he is overwhelmed with the support he received from the public on the performance of his duties as Justice Minister. While the Minister continue to make a case for his views on how this should be handled, he is missing the point of the electoral process in our democratic system. We do not elect Ministers to office but Members of Parliament.
His party won one seat in the recently held snap Elections, that seat goes to the candidate with the most votes on the list which happens to be him. That doesn’t give him any right to continue in the service as Minister of Justice, regardless to how good a job he was doing. As much as he would want to continue, his party must be part of the majority formation and if that is not negotiated by his party, he has no choice but to vacate the seat of Minister and take his seat in Parliament.
