Backlash on New Cg Bank Notes.
While there has been an extra ordinary amount of work going into preparing for the Launch of the New Caribbean Guilder, which is to be released sometime around March of 2025, a lot is been said about possible over sight, or lack of it, when it comes to the backing and support for the new currency notes that is to replace the Netherlands Antilles Florin. (NAF)
Persons from different Institutions on Curacao are already complaining that the language on the notes does not truly represent neither Curacao nor St. Maarten. St. Maarten speaks predominantly English and Curacao Papumento. But the new bills has the Dutch language written on it. Whether there can be any consideration given tho these observations, we have gone past the final approval for the production and eventual launch of the new Caribbean Guilder (Cg).
Also here on St. Maarten the Finance Minister called for a correction to be made in the CBCS media campaign that draws some criticism about the St. Maarten landscape been misrepresented. that over sight was later corrected. The concerns expressed however, by both Curacao and St. Maarten raises questions about the type of representation offered by board members from both islands and it also suggest that the financial institution (CBCS) could be taking decisions independently without considerations from two very different countries with economic differences.
the other side of the coin…
What does the other side of the monetary coin says about the type of representation both countries, Curacao and St. Maarten gets from a Central Bank in-charge of the monetary Union: Shouldn’t the persons sitting on the board of Directors at the CBCS be held responsible for the role played by the Central Bank when representing bout countries?
It’s important to mention that before 10-10-10 the Central Bank of the then Netherlands Antilles was run by one Individual who was the Director. He was later found wanting for corruption and after he was condemned, he ended up in Prison. Now there is a supervisory board in place that should look out for The Shared Monetary Union managed by the Central Bank of Curacao and St. Maarten (CBCS) that should demonstrate proper representation, explaining equally the shared interest of both Curacao and St. Maarten so that both Countries could see themselves in the currency which is to be legal tender on both Islands.
