Harbour View – On Monday April 3, 2019, the Governor of Sint Maarten, His Excellency drs. E.B. Holiday, administered the oath of office to Mr. Jules James, who will be deputizing as Member of Parliament for MP T Heyliger who is curently on pre-trial detention and has being suspended by law from his seat in Parliament. Governor Holiday emphasized the importance of working together to foster the wellbeing of the people of Sint Maarten and wished Mr. James strength and wisdom in the fulfillment of his responsibilities.
This development is important for the majority in parliament in light of the slim 8 seat majority out of 15 members in Parliament. Since the absence of MP Heiliger the ruling majority which was 7 instead of 8 members, struggled to get anything done in Parliament and two of their ministers barely survive a vote of no confidence. With the administering of the oath of office for Mr. Jules James, the Parliament is now back to its full strength of 15 members.
