There were so much one could read into the release from formateur Heyliger published in cmoorejournal.com titled “slow formation will lead to lasting government,” that it came as no surprise when it was finally announced that an agreement was signed between the United Democrats (UD) and the SMCP to form a government with only a 1 (one) seat majority.
The article published in cmoorejournal.com on March 02, 2018, came four days before the announcement, cited some frustration when trying to include the USP to broaden the coalition and consultation with the NA as well. Theodore Heyliger mentioned “I will not be painted in a corner”. That can only mean Heyliger was not prepared to be backed into a corner by party demands and make the same mistakes over again that led to ship jumping. The narative used by Heyliger, such as “A bit greyer and wiser”, and “No more Kingdom and walls” seem to suggest that he was not prepared to gamble his chances having been called on by the governor to form the government.
In order to come to a decision to sign only with the SMCP, Heyliger demonstrate for once, he was willing to follow the script of the informateurs based on Ideologies and likeness. If you follow these two men in the past, they have always supported each other’s views because they all think alike. Based on the SMCP manifesto and the other points on which they campaigned they are not likely to jump out of this coalition therefore the focus was on lasting for the full 4 year term when making a decision.
There has been no conclusion yet on the distribution of portfolios but whoever gets what, there is no walk in the park for this Government when it comes to what is before them when dealing with the Dutch and the World Bank. In the parliament there will have to be lots of lobbying among themselves to move the country forward when it comes to legislations and passing them on the floor, because there is only a one seat majority and some laws require as much as a two thirds majority to be passed. The real test of maturity in this governing period will be in our Parliament and for our MPs to step up to the plate and work in the Interest of its people.
