The Plight of a Local Business Man…
In the wake of GEBE energy crisis
This story as expressed by a local Business man raises questions as to who really cares about what GEBE is doing?, and whether or not it makes any sense to even participate in the political process. Captain Rib Shack owner ask the question, what is the reason for voting?
The business owner took to social media to ask the question who cares and why should we give consideration to the political system which does not look out for its people, or speak on behalf of its citizens and small Business owners.. He asserted that the present GEBE power outages are not only taking a toll on the local businesses and their survival, but making it almost impossible to function on a day to day basis. The Business Owner was explicit with details in his establishment on losses and the impossible situations under which they have to continue working just to remain open…its hard to find adequate excuses for the unsafe situation that would make sense to visitors who are here to experience our hospitality and enjoy our amenities.
On top of these frustrations, the government is still looking for its taxes, while SZV makes regular checks on his inventory to make sure their fees are paid. There has been no consideration shown for how much losses these businesses undergo when GEBE constantly goes out. No discussions on any type of relief or compensation for damages and expenses incurred as a result of these interruptions, all of which the business owner says, he has to navigate to continue running his Business. The entrepreneur confirms that they are at a breaking point now. When the powers that be (the Government) don’t perform we the Business suffer; when business don’t perform the guest suffers, when the guest suffers St. Maarten pays the price and that according to him is the reality right now. Losses all around.
Dino seems to suggest in his post, that we’ve lost our way. According to him, “it feels like been on a rudderless ship with no engine; it’s like being in the middle of the ocean and can’t see land”… its a hopeless feeling to have, but all that is left to do is pray and wait, hoping that your fortune changes, for we don’t know right now where we are heading.
