One man is dead after a motor cycle crash on Harold Jack lookout point on Monday. St. Maarten /St. Martin has been experiencing a series of serious fatal accidents on both sides of the Island involving motorcycle riders and raising concerns as to what can be done to address the frequency of these accidents involving Bike Riders. The amount of young lives loss within the last two months stands at just above a half dozen.
(KPS) Police on St. Maarten Issued a press statement confirming that on Monday may 5th 2019 at approximately 11:30 PM police patrols and paramedics were directed to the lookout point at the Harold Jack where a serious traffic accident had taken place between a pick-up truck with license plate V-715 and a motorcycle with license plate MF-500.
On the scene the investigating officers encountered a head on collision between the two vehicles. They also came upon the two men who were on the motorcycle at the time of the impact. The Rider of the scooter was lying on the ground with severe injuries to his body and head and was not showing any signs of life. The passenger suffered severe head trauma and had a broken leg. The passenger was treated on the scene and then transported to the St. Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. Dr. Mercuur arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and pronounced the death of the motor cycle rider.
According to the preliminary traffic report, the scooter was traveling at very high speed on the left side of the road approaching the corner in front of the lookout Point on the A.J.C. Brouwers Road coming from the direction of Cole Bay. The motor cycle then collided head on with the oncoming traffic from the opposite direction resulting in the death of the rider. Both vehicles were confiscated by the Police Traffic Department to further investigate the accident. The body of the victim was identified with the initials G.W. and was taken to a morgue. The investigation is continuing.
