SXM Cruise Port voted best in the Caribbean
The cruise port voted the best in the Caribbean by the readers of Cruise Fever was the island of St. Maarten. This beautiful island is actually two different countries, St. Maarten (Dutch side) and St. Martin (French side).
One of the most popular areas to visit is Maho Beach. It isn’t the beach itself that makes it so popular since it is extremely small by beach standards in the Caribbean. It is located directly across the street from the island’s airport and gives you the opportunity to stand 100 feet or less below airplanes as they come in for landing. It is an unbelievable experience and amazing photo opportunity, especially when the larger 747s come in.
Although the year ended with a drop of nearly a half million visitors to the destination when compared to the previous years, (1.7 million in 2016 from 602 vessel calls, versus 1.9 million 2015 from 683 vessel calls), only Cozumel, Mexico (3), St. Thomas, USVI (2), came close as the most popular cruise ports of call in the Caribbean.
What has made the Island interesting and a visitor’s favorite is not just the facilities but the unique experience of two different countries in one and the Photo opportunity close to landing jet aircrafts unheard of anywhere in the world.
Cruise Fever.net based in Cincinnati, Ohio, conducted the survey and reported its findings on their site. This site is popularly known for providing tips and advice online, on cruising to the Caribbean and around the world.
