Process of formation questioned by Pundits
Is the formation process used by His Excellency Governor Holiday to form the Government working? Or are we to see the same scenario playing out according to what most people predicted based on the election results. The Governor has chosen to use informateurs to first consult with political parties that have won seats in parliament then he will move to the next step of finalizing the formation.
But many people believe UD with 7 seats will join with USP with 2 seats plus the SMCP 1 to form a 10 seat majority, even after the informateurs submits its final report to the governor.
It is highly unlikely that the NA 5 seats will be part of this formation. His Excellency drs. E.B. Holiday confirmed receiving the report from the informateurs, Mrs. Dr. R.J.A. Arduin and Mr. J.J. Beaujon in a release Monday March 12th 2018. The Governor thanked the informateurs for accepting and completing the assignment as planned. But will that change the predictions of most people? That is left to be seen. The findings of the report says His Excellency the Governor, will be used as input for the process of the formation of a new government.
Meanwhile Julio Romney Political Analyst; a scholar of Comparative Government & Politics and the author of the book “St. Maarten a Constituent State Constitutional Frame Work”, has said such a process infringes on the political process in forming a government.
The Governor is discussing the report with the political leaders of the parties which are elected to parliament. Following the completion of these discussions the report will be made available to the public and a formateur will be appointed.
