Tour Operators join Nature Foundation to clean Great Bay
With the announcement that the first cruise visitors will start to arrive in December 2017, Great Bay Beach was placed on the priority list by the Nature Foundation and Tour Operators to be cleaned and be ready.
The Nature Foundation, together with volunteers from the Cruise Operator Sector, tackled the cleaning up of a large portion of Great Bay Beach this week. Great Bay Beach is not only a critical nature area in terms of sea turtle nesting but is also the major tourism beach for Cruise visitors. The foundation has been spearheading the cleaning up of our beaches systematically but one of the most important has been the Great Bay Beach.
According to Tadzio Bervoets, Manager of the St. Maarten Nature Foundation, they have been engaging the services of unemployed youth and volunteers to clean the beaches with funding provided by the Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance. There are a lot more to be done after the passing of Irma to bring back the original look and comfort once provided to our visitors upon their arrival to the paradise Isle of St. Maarten, but in time we will be back to or former natural beauty.
