Cable TV workers stand to lose jobs.
The communication union leader representing Cable TV employees, said on Wednesday that his union members are up against another major hurricane after Irma, when they were informed that the parent company TEL EM after buying over the company several months ago, is planning on sending home all of Cable TV employees.
After this information was made public on a radio program Wednesday afternoon, the CEO of TEL EM Mr. Kendall Dupersoy has come out saying their hand was forced to make a decision before December 2017. He seem however, to be concentrating more on the payout the workers will get, rather than maintaining any of the workers as TEL EM employees. Meanwhile from within Cable TV the employees there were awaiting the final decision but expect that the company Cable TV for whom they have worked all these years will be gone and a new company will emerge to run the communication network. As for their continued employment under this new company, nothing is guaranteed, since according to Dupersoy, negotiations are continuing.
Dupersoy told the Daily Herald newspaper that TEL EM will offer assistance to the workers helping them with their CV in order for them to be able to reapply for positions that may become available. That position taken by TEL EM CEO, seem to imply that in all likely hood, Cable TV will be dissolved and its workers will lose their jobs, all be it with a severance pay promised by the CEO to be beyond what is legally required.
The Union will have none of this, and expect the government owned company to live up to its moral obligation to keep their citizens working rather than making them jobless right after a devastating hurricane that brought catastrophic damage and losses to more than 90% of its citizens. The fate of the workers now rest in the hands of its Union to negotiate a settlement in the best interest of the Cable TV employees.
