What is wrong with Rahkeem
Rahkeem Cornwall is a Leeward Island Cricketer out of Antigua that has shown tremendous potential and skill in the game of cricket in the Caribbean; some think of him as one who is carrying too much weight for an athlete but his performance with the bat and the ball is far better than those with whom he competes. When you look at his statistics you question why he is not part of the West Indies set up. The Chairman of the WI Selectors Mr. Courtney Brown on Sports Max, stumbled over answering that question, saying rather, they are looking at the possibility of sending him off to the USA on a program that should help him improve on fitness and a more complete athlete. What exactly is meant by that, was not clear.
Rahkeem has never been referred to as clumsy and he is not slower than normal in the field of play. Rahkeem handles his weight well. A comparison, will help to justify that size doesn’t always have to be a lack of fitness. South African born cricketer Richard Levi who is about the same size as Cornwall is a super cricketer for South Africa and for Northamptonshire Steel backs in England. He has shown no signs that he is not a fierce cricketer and can compete at any level, but Rahkeem Cornwall despite having played for WI President Eleven doesn’t seem to fit the call to be part of the West Indies team although his statistics shows otherwise. In sports and in life, there is a tendency of placing too much value on appearance. Performers who don’t quite look the part are often undervalued and under-appreciated. Rahkeem Cornwall, the Antiguan all-rounder seem to fall into this bracket but the towering 24 year old is easily one of the most talented players in the Caribbean.
The current West Indies Team made up of more than 80% Barbados players seem to show that selectors are looking away from performers in the other territories who deserve the call up for players out of Barbados. Rahkeem Cornwall and Jahmar Hamilton from the leeward Island are two of the most underrated players who seem not to get the nod of approval from the WI Selectors.
