Carnival Celebrations leaves one dead…
A 20 year old woman Rachelle Thomas is now confirmed dead amid the carnival celebrations for 2017. The young woman left home with the intention of having fun for jouvert morning. During the popular street jump up for jouvert, businesses would normally promote their products by handing out samples to revelers and those looking on.
The 20 year old among friends obviously had her share to drink but soon ended up in the Intensive Care Unit at the Hospital after reports suggests that what she was drinking could have been spiked with Ecstasy. Doctors confirmed having found traces of the drug in her system. Doctors also say the damage caused to the young woman was life threatening and they were not hopeful that she would recover. Family and friends are now in a state of mourning and are left with unanswered questions as to why, and who might have been responsible for what happened.
The Christian Party leader Mr. Wycliffe Smith, in a Press Release Wednesday, has suggested that Parliament request the Minister of Justice to thoroughly investigate the incident that led to the death of one of our youth and report to Parliament as soon as possible. This investigation he suggest sadly, will not bring back Rachelle but it can help to prevent this from happening again, and bring closure to this case. In the meantime The Daily Herald is reporting that Public prosecutor spokesman says there is not enough evidence to open a criminal investigation into the death of the young woman and her death has been ruled as natural causes.
There is no mention of an autopsy been carried out to find out the real cause of death either, but the body has been released to the family for burial.
At Wednesday’s Government press briefing, both the Prime Minister and Minister of Justice expressed concern over the death of the young woman and shared condolences with the family.
