Governor Holiday swears in last new Member of Parliament.

After several parliamentarians that won seats in the September parliamentary Elections gave up their seats to take up Ministers position in the new Government, new members had to be sworn in to fill those seats left vacant in those parties that form the coalition. The three new members from the NA were sworn in earlier after an unprecedented move by the opposition UP party surprising many when they cooperated with a parliament that had no majority formed a quorum and approved the credentials of the incoming members to have a smooth transition unlike what happened in Curacao. That left one member to be added to complete the 15 seats membership in Parliament.
On Tuesday, January 17, 2017, His Excellency Governor Eugene B. Holiday administered the oath to new Member of Parliament Mr. Perry Geerlings at the Governor’s Cabinet. The new member, of the Democratic Party, takes the seat left vacant as a result of the appointment to the Council of Ministers of Minister of VSA, Emil Lee. This means that the Parliament is now at full strength with 15 members. Governor Holiday congratulated the new MP and wished him strength and wisdom in the performance of his responsibilities to foster the wellbeing of the people of Sint Maarten.
